A denture is a dental appliance option (either removable or non-removable) for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile.

The process of getting dentures requires several appointments, usually over several weeks. Highly accurate impressions and measurements are taken and used to create your custom denture. Several appointments may be necessary to ensure proper shape, color, and fit. At the final appointment, the denture will be precisely adjusted and placed, ensuring a natural and comfortable fit.

Enhance Dental offers traditional dentures, removable implant overdentures, and permanent, non-removable overdentures.

Traditional Dentures

If you’ve lost or need to lose all of your natural teeth, whether from periodontal disease, tooth decay, or injury, complete dentures can replace your missing teeth and your smile. Replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health. Without support from the denture, facial muscles sag, making a person look older or lead to TMJ problems. A properly made denture can also take years off your appearance, giving you more confidence.

There are various types of complete dentures. A conventional full denture is made precisely to the patient’s needs and placed after the remaining teeth are removed and tissues have healed, which may take months—usually to replace an existing older denture. An immediate complete denture is inserted as soon as the remaining teeth are removed. The dentist takes measurements and makes models of the patient’s jaws during a preliminary visit. With immediate dentures, the denture wearer does not have to be without teeth during the healing period because it is a temporary set delivered at time of extractions.

Even with full dentures, patients must still take good care of the mouth. Brush gums, tongue, and palate every morning with a soft-bristled brush before inserting dentures to stimulate circulation in the tissues and help remove plaque. Dentures last about 7 to 12 years, but may need relines in the interim. A well-fitting denture allows better preservation of underlying bone and tissue, as well as function and comfort.

Removable Implant Overdentures

A new or existing removable denture fixed in place with two to four attachments in the mandible (lower jaw) is relatively a simple and low-cost procedure. In the upper jaw, the bone is softer, so four to five implants are needed to satisfy the same stabile and retentive results. The maxillary (upper) implant overdenture will have the palate (roof) removed for added comfort. These restorations are highly aesthetic and hygienic, since they are removable, yet extremely stabile.

Permanent, Non-Removable Implant Overdentures

The All-on-4™ technique uses fewer implants (usually four) that are placed at mechanical inclinations to maximize support. Fewer implants means a lower cost. The use of angled implant placement allows us to avoid anatomical areas that previously required bone grafting and allows us to distally “cant” to add more teeth in the posterior region. Eliminating the need for bone grafting saves months in healing and thousands of dollars. There is no waiting for the surgical guide to be made. We could perform surgery and place teeth later the same day, if you wish. These restorations can be made in either porcelain or acrylic materials with a titanium or gold base that are aesthetically pleasing and comfortable, due to their small size.
